  • Completion of the Concept Design phase. The new design lays out a bigger and better Coomera Hospital, including at least 600 new beds, emergency department, intensive care unit, operating theatres, maternity and multi-storey car parking.
  • Main construction commencing in the second half of 2026, with 400 beds and expanded acute and specialist services to be delivered by 2031.
  • The remaining 200 beds to follow in 2032.

Overview

The new design establishes a landmark health precinct at Coomera. It includes more beds at the new Coomera Hospital will provide care closer to home while taking pressure off the already busy local health system.

Experts from the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service identified the greatest priority for the region to be increasing capacity and bolstering services at the Coomera site, rather than fragmenting services across different facilities, as was the case under the previous plan. It’s why the Queensland Government will deliver an uplift of 50% to deliver 600 more beds at the new Coomera Hospital.

The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver:

At least 600 new overnight beds
Works on site to progress while planning continues
A revised masterplan to better connect to public transport
A 12-storey Clinical Services Building housing the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Theatres, Mental Health, Maternity, Paediatric, and Renal services, along with multiple inpatient units
A multi-storey car park with ground level parking areas.
A 7-storey Ambulatory Care Building providing outpatient clinics, Day Oncology, Allied Health, Pathology, and education facilities, connected to the main hospital via link bridges
