Latest updates

  • The long-term master plan for Mackay Base Hospital to deliver a bigger and better hospital has been released that sets out a staged approach to growing the hospital campus over the next decade and a half.
  • The vacant, Queensland Government-owned land adjacent to the hospital has been acquired to enable the expansion of the hospital campus and a long-term car parking solution on campus.
  • A multi-storey car park will be built on the land, predominately for staff parking, freeing up critical space on the existing hospital campus to prioritise the expansion of clinical services and public parking.
  • Construction is already underway on 80 new fleet parking spaces that will open in September and free up public car parking spaces on the hospital campus

Overview

These communities are growing and deserve care closer to home, so we’re delivering a major expansion to the hospital. More beds and services at Mackay Base Hospital will make sure locals have access to safe, high-quality care.

Main construction works will commence in 2027, with all Stage 1 packages to be delivered by 2030.

The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver:

At least 128 new overnight beds
Expanded emergency, maternity, birthing, surgical, endoscopy, neonatal and paediatric services
