  • Works have started on a temporary carpark for 80 vehicles at the Mackay Hospital to free up space for additional car parking and the recommissioning of the helipad, allowing for time-critical transfer of patients directly to and from the hospital.
  • Planning is underway for major expansion that will deliver more overnight beds and expanded health services with new masterplan expected to be completed mid-2026.

These communities are growing and deserve care closer to home, so we’re delivering a major expansion to the hospital. More beds and services at Mackay Base Hospital will make sure locals have access to safe, high-quality care.

The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver:

At least 128 new overnight beds
Services including surgical, maternity, neonatal and paediatric
A new, fully developed plan that meets Hospital and Health Service and clinical needs
A multi-storey car park
A new helipad.
